A crowd of 74,635 people, the largest number in Florida Citrus Bowl history, welcomed the World Wrestling Entertainment® and WrestleMania® XXIV to Orlando on March 30, 2008. They saw four hours of exciting action, including the final match for Ric Flair, who was forced to retire after losing to Shawn Michaels. Fans from all 50 states, 5 Canadian provinces and 21 countries invaded Orlando, pumping up to $30 million into the local economy. In addition, the WWE® grossed more than $5.85 million in ticket sales, making it the highest grossing live event in WWE history and in the history of the Citrus Bowl.
WrestleMania week in Orlando also included the annual WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, a WrestleMania Block Party in the heart of downtown and the first-ever WrestleManiArt, an event that featured drawings, paintings and sculptures created by WWE Legends and Superstars. WrestleMania 24 was hosted by the City of Orlando and the Central Florida Sports Commission.
