Volusia County Sports

General Information

Centered in a fast growing industrial triangle, Volusia County is located just 25 miles northeast of Orlando, 60 miles north of the Kennedy Space Center and 84 miles south of Jacksonville. Its east central location places Volusia County at the busy intersection of Florida’s two major interstate highways, I-95 and I-4.

volusia BeachesVolusia County features over 47 miles of beaches centered on Daytona Beach, the “World’s Most Famous Beach.” The area’s many lakes and rivers offer every type of water sport. Volusia County also features many sports complexes, great golf courses and more than 13,000 hotel rooms. Not only does this community host some of the largest special events in the world, but Daytona Beach is also home to the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA), the National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) and the Florida Section of the United States Tennis Association. Volusia County Sports Facilities

The Ocean Center (Daytona Beach).  This highly functional facility can host events such as Figure Skating and Taekwondo. The Ocean Center contains a 46,000 square foot arena with seating capacity for 10,000, a 14,000 square foot conference center, 18 separate meeting rooms and more. In addition, a 100,000 square foot expansion is scheduled for completion by the summer of 2008. Visit the Ocean Center Website.

LPGA International (Daytona Beach).  The headquarters of the Ladies Professional Golf Association and two championship golf courses combine to create the perfect setting for any tournament at LPGA International. The “Legends Course,” which will host the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf National Championship in May 2007, is an Arthur Hills design punctuated by tree-lined fairways and natural marshlands. The “Champions Course” is a links-style, Rees Jones layout. Both courses host the LPGA Qualifying School each winter. Visit the LPGA International Website.

Volusia County Beaches.  Stretching from Ormond Beach to New Smyrna Beach, Volusia County offers more than 47 miles of coastline, perfect for water sports, beach volleyball, fishing, sailing, surfing or just relaxing. Daytona Beach was home to the 2002 World Lifesaving Championships and annually welcomes the National Cheerleading Championships.

Volusia County Fairgrounds (DeLand).  Strategically located on State Road 44 at Interstate 4 Exit 118, the Volusia County Fairgrounds are only 15 miles from Interstate 95 and Daytona Beach and only 32 miles from Orlando. This location draws visitors not only from Volusia County but also from Seminole, Orange, Lake, Brevard, Flagler and Putnam counties. As part of the western gateway into Volusia County, the grounds, with nearly 59,000 square feet of covered area, have become a major gathering place for special events. Florida Tennis Center Daytona Beach.  This state-of-the-art facility offers 24 clay Hydro-Courts, with 20 lighted for night play. The facility also features a grandstand court with 1,000 permanent seats, a 6,000 square foot building with full-service pro shop, tennis center office, locker rooms, plus 3,500 square feet of office space for the USTA Florida Section.
